James Tudor Underwear Launches British Brief Invasion
James Tudor, the uniquely British underwear company, is igniting its own pop invasion this summer with the launch of its pop-inspired Retro Collection. The sophisticated tailored briefs come in an assortment of seventies inspired colors from psychedelic pink to funky yellow. All include James Tudor’s signature button detailing and bold designer waist band. The James Tudor Retro Collection is available now in stores nationwide and online at LaJock.com.
The Retro Collection is a bit of an edgy departure from past James Tudor lines, explains Jon Hammond-Hagan, co-head designer at James Tudor. Until now, Hammond-Hagan and his design partner Alec Harrison have focused on classic British styling, pulling inspiration from period men’s tailoring, particularly 18th and 19th century fashions like breeches, waistcoats and frock coats. The Retro collection introduces their brand’s first step into modern British pop culture.
Creating the Brief
Historically, the 1970s were a rockin’ year for Brits, continues Hammond-Hagan. It was the first time British pop culture hit the worldwide masses. We wanted to pay homage to that important period in British history, while at the same retaining our distinctly James Tudor design aesthetic.
Made from a breathable, body-conforming stretch fabric (95% cotton/5% Lycra), The Retro Collection classic briefs are available in eleven color patterns. Retro Boxer briefs are also available, with seven color patterns to choose from. The signature 1 1/4 inch microfiber elastic logo waistband, with matching stitched trim, is featured on all, as are the three buttons that have become the signature piece detailing of James Tudor underwear.
We cater to today’s fashion forward man, adds Alec Harrison. Our customer takes care of his appearance, wants to look good and knows how to dress. He appreciates the fine details that go into the production of garments and regards his underwear as a key component of his wardrobe.
Looking Back on the Brand
The name is a nod to the famous royal dynasty – stemmed from the desire to bring historical men’s period tailoring into the modern age. Jon Hammond-Hagan and Alec Harrison were inspired by the idea of the British gentleman; a class of men who placed high emphasis on the immaculate detail of their dress. James Tudor evokes that idea of grandeur, decadence and quality. While emulating British tailoring, the collection also emphasizes a contemporary edge. The label founders affectionately refer to the James Tudor man as the 21st Century dandy.
Upcoming Collections
In addition to the Retro Collection, James Tudor will soon be introducing the Placquet Collection, a classic line using super-soft cotton and featuring a solid color front buttoning placquet and contrast leg trim.
